if you were a supermodel

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

what's your supermodel name? i think mine is josephine de la stewart. which isn't really that cool. i don't even know who my favorite actress is, i just chose josephine baker because i think she's awesome and we have the same birthday. i can rattle off 25 actors i adore and admire, but i can't think of any actresses. anyway. what's your supermodel name?

now where was i?

now where was i?

the

friday my sister and r2 and yellow surpirsied me at work and i ran away early. chilled uptown for a while before i had a date. turned out to be the Worst. Date. Ever.™

we met in the lobby of the hudson hotel, so we could go around the corner to st. paul the apostle church for a friday night fight. it was the golden gloves quarter finals or something, i didn't even care, i just like boxing. and the friday night fights are cool because there's a DJ and beer and hotdogs and a general energetic atmosphere. plus: hot, sweaty half naked guys. you can't really go wrong. unless, of course, you're on the Worst. Date. Ever.™ he showed up drunk and yelled inappropriate things at the boxers and the ring girl. woe is me.

friday night fight

golden gloves

saturday i trekked uptown to get my hair cut by the gorgeous nunzio at rita hazan. then back downtown to eat at rialto and wander around soho, the west village and the meat packing district. fell in love with a scarf in alexander mcqueen but resisted.

sin city

i am so excited for this movie.

i am overlooking the fact that poor jessica alba has to play a stripper (why couldn't she be a scientist, or a tattoo artist or something???) because my #1 and #3 crushes, benicio del toro and clive owen, look so damn good.

thank zeus johhny depp is not in this movie. i would die from hotness sensory overload. watch the trailer here.

oh, you know who else is in this flick? rutger hauer! he was my favorite part of blade runner.

vive le gin on CNN

vegas mayor defends gin comments

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) -- Sin City's mayor made no apologies Thursday after being criticized for extolling gin to a class of fourth-graders.

Mayor Oscar Goodman said he was just being himself when he told elementary school students that drinking was one of his hobbies and that the one thing he would want if stranded on an island is a bottle of gin.

"I answered the question honestly and truthfully," Goodman told reporters. "I'm not going to lie to children. I'm not going to say I would take a teddy bear or a Bible or something like that."

Asked by a reporter if he had a drinking problem, Goodman answered, "Oh, absolutely not. I love to drink."

Moments later, he cut off questions and walked out of the news conference.

Goodman, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate for governor, has never been shy about his love of gin.

He hosts regular "Martinis with the Mayor" events and induced a bidding war between two gin companies in 2002 before becoming a spokesman for one. He donated half the $100,000 he made to an agency that provides shelter and substance abuse programs and half to a private school founded by his wife.

Goodman was at Mackey Elementary on Wednesday as part of Nevada Reading Week when he made the drinking comments during a question-and-answer session.

Principal Kemala Washington later called the comments inappropriate but said the students did not appear to understand.

"It just went over their heads," Washington said.

many thanks to tim for sending me this story.

etc, etc, etc

oh, so yeah. life goes on.

waiting for the subway

thursday night i met tim and my brother andi n the lobby of the tribeca grand. my brother was meeting some chicks - brokers from CT - and then we all headed to M1-5 where thiam was throwing some kind of soul music pary. mostly we drank on someone else's tab and talked about whatever.

friday after work i met tsuyoshi and melissa at the soho grand for a glass of wine. at some point we walked by hell on gansevoort street, which has apparently shut down. who knew?
remnants of hell

there was also a DWR party at the store on 14th street, so we hit that.

the bag

and then pop burger for dinner.

pop burger

also having mini burgers and fries was the very very very handsome liev schreiber. we tried not to stare, but homes is hot.

then we had one last glass of wine at passerby.

passerby

saturday i had brunch at schiller's with a couple of coworkers and the man behind page six six six, perez hilton! then i had to run some errands and shop for a birthday present in soho. celeb sightings: morten harket, lead singer of a-ha and total hottie, and joseph gordon-levitt. cutie.

later that night there was a party uptown, a visit to tsuyoshi's house where we met his parent's tiny chihuahua..

yoie

...and then a speeding cab downtown to misshapes for a little dancing. too too too tired to stay too long.

back of the cab
speeding through times square
heading downtown
kenyan on the dancefloor
bare breast advertising

i'm pretty sure i was in bed by 3am.

today, sunday, there was a birthday brunch uptown, lots and lots of good food.

and so tomorrow a new week begins.

frankly, scarlett...

oh! i almost forgot my big news:

wednesday night i was riding the A train with some work peeps. maria and i both got off at west 4th street and went downstairs to transfer to the F. while we were standing on the platform, chatting, the V rolled into the station. "should i take the V instead?" i wondered aloud, looking into the cars as they passed. and as the train slowed down, through the window of the door, i saw austin scarlett!

"it's austin!" i said to maria, whose eyes widened.
"where?" i pointed and maria rushed toward the front of the car in front of us.

the doors of the V train opened and austin emerged. tall, lithe, soooo skinny. hair long, überblond and swept back. a study in earth tones: beige coat, khaki pants tucked into tan leather boots.

"i'm a big fan!" maria said.
austin shrugged/smiled/mumbled something.
“LOVE YOU!" i said as he walked up the stairs. he smiled and did that thing where you kind of close your eyes and raise your shoulders to your ears. an acknowledgement of something. he might have even said "thanks."

then he went up the stairs and maria and i squealed like high school girls:
"oh my gawwwwd!!!!"

music is armor

sometimes you need some protection to face the day. like when i wake up late and irritable and i have to have the headphones on as soon as i leave the apartment. the sounds stay with me throughout my commute so i can be locked in my own world. when i'm really fragile i listen to dr. dre - the gangsta beats make me feel strong. i can keep the "don't fuck with me" look on my face.

but then today i saw this on ipod lounge.

i haven't figured out how i feel about this yet.

what could he be listening to? what is the proper soundtrack for killing?

it's not me. it's you.

what's going on?

here's what's going on:

straight boys suck.

snow sucks.

beyoncé is bouncy.

the motorcycle diaries rules.

been listening to random tweaky electro DJ nerd music, like squarepusher, kid 606, and DJ Nuts. mostly thanks to this blog. some of the tracks are so effin crazy. love it!

brainstormed some ideas about what would be in a magazine for me, by me, about me...

drunk dialing for fun and profit
how to lose friends and make out with other people's boyfriends
whose underwear is this?
getting rid of the boy who won't let go
how to look like a million bucks for $19.99
when a lie is better than the truth
suppressing your inner bitch at work

ha, ha. i slay me. none of this is even current. these are the back issues. literally.

honestly? i just want to wake up in seychelles. it's been too f*¢king cold for too long. i miss my bike. and my bike buddies.
