hope on the half shell

looking back...
trying to remember where i've been, what i've done.

thursday i went to a hugh masekela show and saw harry belafonte.

harry belafonte

friday i saw the new james bond, which was pretty good, i guess...

i mean, daniel craig is a great actor, but he's not classically handsome, and i just wasn't entirely sure he was "bond" enough... bond to me is irresistible, an all-eyes-on-me ladykiller. but on the other hand - it's an origin story, like when you read wolverine #1 or whatever. i enjoyed it, except when i didn't. there's a five minute period in the last third when i was like, GROAN. but still. thumbs up.

saturday i had brunch with poogene and later got a blowout.

straight hair

my straight hair and i joined my mom for dry aged rib eye steak dinner on the upper west side and then i ate late supper - or dinner again - at blt fish's fish shack.

workhorse, poogene and i shared the raw bar seafood combo, aka the tower of power, fell in love with fanny bay oysters and ordered another half dozen of those, with six widow's holes. everything was washed down with a few large sapphire and tonics and a lot of laughing. could not stop laughing. i love those boys.

after oysters i hopped on the back of workhorse's vespa and we scooted east to have one drink at bao 111 before meeting everyone at speakeasy for more drinks and pool. i was home minutes before 4am.

sundays are for sleeping.

i should have gotten a mani/pedi - my mom magically produced two bottles of the highly elusive and much sought after chanel black satin nail polish.

thursday i went to a motorola party after work, at a great space called the xchange. finger food and drinks, plus a brand-new Q, which, while fancy and new fangled, is not as pretty or as small as my beloved pebl.

someone on 28th street has a freaking bungalow that faces the hudson river. does anyone know what this is? a photo studio? a home? i need info. and keys.

next up was the yo! mtv raps puma party at classic kicks. music was by the legendary evil dee and he really turned it out. if you loved old school hip-hop, you were in heaven. das efx, nice and smooth, odb, rakim, all the classics. i worship at the altar of evil dee. dancing in the sneaker store was one of the highlights of my summer. plus, they were giving out free fat laces!

somehow i got up at 6am the next day to meet my brother in bryant park for the pharrell/kanye mini concert for GMA. i wish i could say i wasn't one of the girls screaming or sighing everytime skateboard p spoke or took off his sunglasses or lifted his shirt. he's such a fox.

my brother and i overheard this conversation:

teenage girl on cell phone: i don't owe her two dollars! she didn't have to buy me no metrocard, i got my own metrocard! why she tryin to say i owe her money? i bought a snapple. that was a dollar fifty. no, in this neighborhood, a snapple is a dollar fifty. well i don't know but i know i don't owe her no two dollars. i only have five dollars and i am not giving her no two dollars.

i hope she had a friends and family plan, otherwise the call was costing her more than two dollars.

moving along.

king t also met me at bryant park. then we walked through times square, had breakfast at the edison and then a pedicure... all this before noon.

i also overheard this conversation near the sean jean store on 5th ave:

girl #1: why you always pointing out white boys to me?
girl #2: you said you liked justin timberlake types.
girl #1: the only thing that boy has in common with justin timberlake is skin color.

later i met my mom and sister for soho shopping and a graffiti tour of the lower east side.
to be honest, i'm exhausted just thinking about all this.

sham pain, the epic

if you play your cards right, your weekend can start on thursday.

i had a meeting in the am and then went to visit my friend cornelius in the garment district. he's beautiful, he can sing, i love his band and he also designs dresses! i was hooked up with a brand new wrap dress.

wrap dress

please excuse the horrifying shiny chin. hot in the city.

anyway. when you have a good meeting and a new dress, you have to go out. those are the rules.

so i met my friend T for dinner, and it quickly turned into oysters and champagne...

after dinner we picked up more champagne and headed to workhorse's, where there was an impromptu pedi competition.

you may or may not believe this, but some of these feet belong to straight men.

pedi contest

i was declared the winner of the pedi contest, but when straight guys are involved, is it really a victory to savor?

here's my pedi secret: i bring my own polish to the pedi place. that way, when (not if) the polish chips, i can touch it up myself.

crudo

we ended the night in the back patio of crudo.

friday i did stuff like go to the bookstore, drink a smoothie, drop off laundry, etc.

saturday i traveled to fort greene, brooklyn - beautiful scenic setting for a summer picnic...

sitting under a tree eating KFC is one of life's small pleasures.

plus my ipod was hooked up to my monster speakers...

sunday afternoon was the fun indoor/outdoor gay party @ opus 22 - starring candis cayne. she performed a few numbers and even ran out onto the west side highway during "love is a battlefield."

may i be honest? your weekend is lacking if you don't see a tranny run to an island by the west side highway and dance like pat benatar.
