name that tune.

even though I love new music, I find myself listening to the same stuff over and over. curious about how many times I'd heard "Cool Jerk," recently, since it seems like I hear it all the effing time, I sorted my music by "plays." now, there is some discrepancy about what counts as a "play." theories abound. also, some songs I have obviously listened to have "zero" plays. no comprendo. i don't know how it works or when iTunes starts counting, and i suspect that when you update iTunes, you lose all your previous plays.

anyway! here are my top tracks. I love that Little Boots and Little Richard are next to each other.

a lady needs to get a handle on her cycle.

I hate my fucking bike. After by beloved Hello Kitty bike was stolen -- and the Schwinn Winwood was stolen, too -- I bought a hundred dollar Huffy, and I just hate it. I am dreaming of something pretty, functional, comfortable, and with the potential to put a small brown chihuahua in the basket.

Some options:

Linus Dutchi $425ish

PublicJ7 $495ish

Republic Plato $399ish

Flying Pigeon $350ish

Electra Amsterdam $493ish

And, le crème de la crème: the Pashley Princess Sovereign, $1,295.00

AS IF.

As if I had money to spend. As if I won't end up buying a budget bike from

not muff diving. muff seeking.

i lost my muff when i moved.
i don't know where it went.
i bought it at a flea market in philadelphia and it was very old, slightly worn but gorgeous.
silver fox.
now that it's gone and my mittens are meh i think about that muff all the time.
maybe i need a new muff.
saw a gorgeous vintage red fox one on ebay… didn't bid. sold for $15. kicked myself.
cute faux fur ones on etsy, but more barrel-shaped; i want pillow-shaped.

it's cold.
i want to look like this:

or this:

instead i look like this:

more or less. exaggeration, maybe.

old school.

i am so, so, so obsessed with the library of congress digital collection of prints and photographs. this image is from 1899!

description:

i know that the image above is black and white…
and you can't tell what those ensembles really look like…
and i am definitely NOT saying that things were better back then…
but isn't it fairly safe to say that the image below constitutes a downgrade?

vintage postcard.

dated 1971.

show me your teeth.

I dreamed my teeth fell out. It was so vivid; one by one they started dropping out, and I carried them in my hand, trying not to smile. I used to dream about my teeth falling out when I was in college, trying to write my screenplay so I could graduate. Classic anxiety dream. Not fun. I certainly wish I'd dreamed about hot gay vampires in leather instead.

tgif!

the writing is on the wall.

okay, not writing. but some paper. the ex moved out and all his show posters and cool album covers came off the wall. blank walls bother me something awful, i cannot look at them and they make me feel sad, anxious and empty, but being short on cash i couldn't invest in any cool visuals or framing.

i turned to blockposters.com, where you can upload a jpeg and then print a giant PDF mosaic.

first project: josephine baker, in the living room.

i started with this image:

i printed black and white copies at kinko's fedex office or whatever it's called because they are cheaper to print and my printer is out of ink. i also purchased a whole bunch of command poster strips.

it turned out pretty cool so i did it again over the bed in the bedroom. color printouts this time. big spender!

next i think i'll do this image, across from the bed, so i can wake up and see what i really care about: booze and shoes.

kidding! sorta. not really.

i need new clothes.

i walked into H&M today and everything was so light and fresh and gauzy and girly and flirty and frilly and springtime. i was wearing my huge wookie boots and a coat and a hat and gloves and a scarf and a scowl. the snow can't stop won't stop! despite my cold miser ensemble i wanted to try on frothy pink dresses and wonderland-worthy polka-dot heels. but the clothes there don't fit me and the heels didn't come in my size and we are months away from the kind of weather which allows pretty. i bought socks and left.

regardez les chaussures!

peep the dress!

petal pushers.

it's no secret i love wearing flowers in my hair.
but sometimes you have to switch it up!

lately i've been wearing a giant pink bow from ban.do and alternating with a sequin heart headband from ban.do.

but i think i want to transition something bigger, more dramatic. think diadems, halos and crowns!

for instance:
something like the juliet halo
or the maenad ram headdress
except maybe too hippie chick? maybe i'd have to fight ke¢ha for them?

how about this one? timeless, neutral, goes with everything…
