bring back match game!

thank the mighty lord zeus that the game show network airs episodes of match game. match game is genius. celebrities drinking, smoking and acting stupid -- but contestants WIN MONEY. that never happens on jersey shore.

this old world is a new world

alfred

yesterday morning i texted hrh:

me: i woke up with iPhone phever!
hrh: paging dr. jobs, paging dr. jobs.

then last night on spring street i saw two people sitting on chairs in front of the apple store. they're already lining up for the iPhone.

home is where the art is

this is not an art gallery

despite the crazy huge snowstorm in new york on valentine's day, i made it from my apartment downtown to the MTV studios in times square for a "behind the scenes" story with TRL host damien fahey.

i got to check out damien's dressing room, watch rehearsal and hang out backstage during the show. drew barrymore was the guest, and she was absolutely adorable. so cute, so pretty, and so nice to everyone. even though there had just been massive layoffs, it still seemed like a cool place to work. everyone's young, casually dressed, goofing off and hugging each other. close-knit.

anyway, i didn't take any pictures, mostly because i had a photographer with me but also because my camera is knock knock knockin' on heaven's door. i can barely wait to get a new one. i think that pink sony hits stores next week. we'll see.

tranny breakdown!

in the immortal words of whitney houson:
it's not right, but it's okay.

your new boyfriend is named zarf.

love him, treat him well. he has issues.

i have watched this about seventeen times and it only gets better. i've spread it to friends and coworkers, and i just can't get enough. it's old, i'm late to the bandwagon, but i'm gonna ride it all over town...

the accent! the underbite! the lone tear that falls at the very end!
it's GENIUS.
brazilliant.

"who am i?
what am i?
isn't it obvious?"

yes, your majesty!

last night i saw a trailer for the the tudors, a new series coming to showtime.

a historical costume drama with horses, castles and hot boys is pretty much tailor-made for me.

and of course, jonathan rhys meyers is in my top 5, right behind johnny depp and benicio del toro (adam beach and joaquin phoenix are in there somewhere, with pharrell and t.i. not far behind, then throw in some watanabe and some clive)

velvet goldmine is a true obsession.

here's a trailer for the tudors:

no magic wand jokes.

so i rented the covenant the very first day it was out on DVD, which was tuesday. let's just be clear: the movie is completely mediocre. but renny harlin and the producers were extremely specific with the marketing of this film, which was basically: what if abercrombie models had powers?

kidding. but unfortunately, a movie that asks this question is a film i need to see.

and so the "sons of ipswich" are basically witches, wizards, warlocks, whatever you want to call them. they're rich new england chiseled-jawed boys who reference harry potter and one dude threatens to make another dude his "weeatch." terrible, laughable, and sort of weirdly enjoyable. but honestly? rent it for the special effects... see it again for the swim team scenes.

the covenant

the covenant

the covenant

sweet pieces of man candy.
when, in your life, have you ever seen high school boys like that?
or uniforms like that?

believe it or not, there's gay subtext.

i was sort of expecting them to start making out with each other.

the covenant

i mean, they seem like they want to, am i right?
let me mention that there are girls in swimsuits at in this scene, but none of the guys notice them.

the covenant

listen, i know i could just go get gay porn, but would it be directed by renny harlin? would friday night lights' taylor kitsch be in it? would it be titillating but still PG-13?

and so, i mindlessly await the covenant 2: butterfly stroke boogaloo.
or whatever.

television girl

my true love

so so psyched that rome is coming back. TV has sucked so hard lately with all the dancing and singing and american idleness.* give me drama, death, sex, full frontal nudity, hotness!

speaking of hotness, james purefoy was quoted on page six today:

December 15, 2006 -- BRITISH actor James Purefoy doesn't open up to Out magazine on why he quit halfway through the production of "V for Vendetta" - but he does open up about his sexuality. Purefoy told the mag that while he's straight, he will "never say never" when it comes to having sex with a man. "Anyone who went to an English [private] school in the 1970s will have had some kind of a gay experience," he said. "You bang 500 adolescent hormonal boys together at exactly the time when they're exploring their sexuality, and don't be surprised if some shenanigan comes out of it."

haha he said "bang 500 boys." oh, and james purefoy and i have the same birthday. is it destiny?

meanwhile i predict taylor handley will be the teen heartthrob of the spring. i've seen two episodes of hidden palms and if you miss the old OC, you'll be into it. i am. oh, and guess what? unlike the OC, there are actual BLACK PEOPLE in the cast. and an asian chick. imagine that.

if you're paying attention, you'll notice that james, taylor and i are all geminis. wondertwin power activate.

what, pray tell, has happened to my other fave gem, dirty colin? he's laying low? working with woody allen and staying sober? i miss him.

here's a highly repetitive track for you: television girl

last, but not least, here is a commercial for coffee starring brad pitt:

dear network executives and ad buyers,

sad tv

listen. i'm a city girl, and i go out a lot, and i use the awesome DVR. but sometimes i'm home watching TV like any other american.

but i'm not any other american. i'm a working woman of color living in new york. and you need to stop selling me things i have no interest in. are we not living in the future? isn't everyone all about direct marketing?

let me help you help me help myself.

here are the commercials i DO NOT want to see:

- asthma medication commercials

- aarp commercials (screw old people and the social security i'm not getting)

- heartburn medication commercials

- valtrex commercials

- viagra/cialis commercials (please. no more. please.)

- laundry detergent commercials (yawn.)

- car commercials. unless they're in black and white and very stylish with good music so that i almost forget it's a car commercial. (yes, talking to you, jaguar)

- commercials in which a man gives a woman DIAMONDS*

- commericals in which a man gives a woman DIAMONDS but the commercial is really for a credit card (mr suki, akiko, brian - talking to you)*

- commercials for "restaurants" that, because i live in a city with amazing food, i will never ever go to: applebee's, chili's, quizno's.... i would also ban olive garden commericals but my high school boyfriend is in one of them so i won't.

there may be more, i'll keep you updated.

sincerely,
me

bachelorette

putting the SIN in SINGLE®.

bachelorette fridge

my girl bjork has a song called bachelorette.

a song i adore.

but i wish there were a better word for the single ladies. then again, at least we're not in "maid" or "spinster" territory. still, there's something antiquated about it.

moving right along:

this bachelorette left her ghetto crack-den sized apartment and had lunch at the ritz yesterday. life is about highs and lows, people. this much i know is true.

my lunch date was a cute cute cute actor from a new-ish TV show. work-related fun!

this bachelorette also went to the movies last night.

high noon was playing for free in bryant park.

el oh ess tee

i am so glad that lost won an emmy.

i really think it's one of the best shows on TV.
i love that the cast is diverse - young old, multiracial...
i love how what one person thinks is true another person thinks is crazy talk.
it's faith vs. science, duty vs. destiny, community vs. egocentricity...

also? foxy fox is the foxiest fox ever to fox fox.

matthew fox, that is.

taking pictures of the TV

i love taking pictures of the TV, especially when i'm watching a movie. sometimes the way things are framed - the way the director has filled the space - is so smart and right that i have to pause the DVD and grab my camera.

recently i watched sweet smell of success again, and it's such a great film. new york looks so pretty in black and white, and there are some amazing lines. like when susie tries to break up with steve by giving him some lame excuse and he says, "susie, that's fish four days old - i won't buy it!" also, having a black rotary phone brought to your table when you're in a restaurant is so much more civilized than reaching in your pocket for a cell.

"gentlemen, i'm toasting my favorite new perfume... the sweet smell of success."
