i went through a phase where i watched *a lot* of gsn. especially the old stuff. match game, to tell the truth, what's my line. i totally fell in love with kitty carlisle hart. she was so park avenue, such an old-school socialite, but not afraid to make fun of herself. she was a great friend of the met as well.

r.i.p

gabriel's return, originally uploaded by stoneth.

when i first saw a picture of gabriel from stoneth's faces of poverty, i thought he was beautiful, stunning, sad, visually arresting and blessed with great bone structure. going back and looking at old favorites i discovered that he shot himself in october. more sadness there than anyone could see. rest in peace.

disco d

one of my fave CDs is a filthy booty bass disc called a night at the booty bar from disco D.

you know they say this is the most depressing time of the year, the post-holiday blues and seasonal affective disorder sets in. or maybe it's something else... in any case, sad news:

It has been revealed that music producer Disco D - real name David Shayman - committed suicide on Tuesday. Disco D was found dead inside his New York home. He was 27.

The hip-hop mixer, whose music was heard on ads for Sprite and Best Buy, had previously worked with rapper 50 Cent on his "The Massacre album" and on the track "Ski Mask Way." The two collaborated together after some of D's mixes landed in the hands of G-Unit's Sha Money XL, who eventually showed the CD to Fiddy.

Other artists he worked with included Trick Daddy and Nina Sky. He also produced K-Fed's flopped song, "Popozao" and listened to various artists.

On his mySpace website, he once wrote, "Before Disco D was even born, I was a fan of all types of different stuff, from The Beatles and Donna Summer to Charlie Parker and John Coltrane to N.W.A. and 2 Live Crew to Pantera, Primus and GWAR. I didn't have any sort of preconceptions about genres, I just was into what impacted me emotionally."

It has been reported that the 27-year-old suffered from depression and had been diagnosed as bi-polar.

Prior to his death, he was working on music for videogames and had a remix for Shiny Toy Guns in the works.

i almost forgot to post about this:

REGGAE-PUNK PIONEER DESMOND DEKKER DIES AT 64

DESMOND DEKKER, the Kingston singer whose haunting, strident "Israelites" was the first Jamaican reggae hit to cross over to international success, died May 25th of a heart attack in his Surrey, England, home. He was 64, and was to begin a European tour this week. Born an orphan in Kinston, Jamaica, Dekker passed an audition with the Beverley's record label in 1961 and had a string of regional hits, such as "King of Ska," before reinventing himself as a rebel "rude boy" in 1967. His hits in that vein, including "007 (Shanty Town)" and "Tougher Than Tough," made him a key influence on the SEX PISTOLS and the CLASH. "He had a nice spirit -- very soulful and a very good songwriter," says TOOTS HIBBERT of the MAYTALS, who befriended Dekker while recording in Kingston in the '60s. "He should have gotten a lot more credit, but that's the way it goes sometimes."

i freaking love this song: the israelites - desmond dekker

r.i.p.

growing up in new york, you meet a lot of characters. zoo york's main man, harold hunter was one of them. for the last 15 years or so, i would see him in the meadow, or at all the craziest parties, or hanging out in front of supreme. he was the kind of kid who would cross the street just to give me a hug, and would always ask about my sister. i didn't even see kids till much later, i just knew him as this nice, sorta crazy guy. everyone knew harold, and harold knew everyone. and i know he will be missed.
