moss and movies

moss is a store in which you are not allowed to touch anything, take photographs, or make disparaging remarks about the merchandise. throw free white wine at people during the icff and suddenly anything goes. touching, photographing, critiquing. everyone's got one eye on the designs and the other eye on the crowd. lots of hot design-oriented gentlemen. most common question: "straight or gay?" most common answer: "here, it's so hard to tell."

late night: gummo was on.

sunday night: watched larry clark's wassup rockers. not as good as kids, in my opinion, but still an insight into the lives of this clique: tight pants wearing latino skateboard boys in LA.

take a seat, love

new york is a magical place because you can go to a party celebrating a chair. of course the chair is the clicquot loveseat and it's designed by karim rashid... so a party is a must.

the chair is, for lack of a better word, plastic. but it's pink!!! inspired by pink champagne. it's built for two, with a champagne bucket in the middle, so that you can gaze adoringly at your beloved while you sip the bubbly.

its softly rounded edges make it sensual, curvy, sleek, but someone in our posse thought it was "mcdonald's-ish."

whatever, bring on the champagne.

the art of keeping warm

i've been delayed in recapping past events. it happens.

marc newson

thursday was fffreeezing, brisk brick cold, but it didn't stop me from going to the opening of the marc newson show at the gagosian gallery. right after i took the picture above, a security guard informed me that taking pictures was not allowed. my bad.

i think often creativity is about making something out of nothing, seeing potential, visualizing something that isn't there. and so it goes, that a slab of marble becomes a honeycombed bookshelf, or a sensuously curved chair. beautiful objects - made from a single seamless piece - be it marble or nickel. check out marc newson, seriously!

of course it was crazy crowded and so we could only quickly glance at everything before hurrying around the corner into the half king, where we were warmed by pints of ale and extremely delicious and hearty mac & cheese. thanks, sebastian junger!

next we intended to go to the prophecy magazine party at the box, but as the cab pulled up we saw a line outside and had to tell the driver to keep driving. it was too cold to wait in a line!

so we went around the corner to the graphic havoc party at i heart. cheeseburger was playing, but all the beer was gone, so we went to see friends and evil dee at rewind. a little whiskey to warm up, a little hip-hop to defrost. then to 151 where the graphic havoc boys eventually showed up, the music was loud, the conversation was great and the bartenders were hot.

dessert & design

last night i had dinner - and more importantly, dessert - at morimoto.

a few years ago i went to the one in philadelphia (with interiors by karim rashid) and had one of the most exquisite dining experiences of my life: omokase.

the new york location is designed by tadao ando. the food did not disappoint.

random stuff of the day:

ding dong the boobs are gone

have bling will travel

got records? turn vinyl tracks into mp3s

lucite heeled peep toes, gladiator sandals fit for spartacus, obsessively beribboned wedges, mirrored croc kisslock purse and other deliciously wacky spring 2007 accessories you can't afford

method handwash (and dish soap) - packaging by karim rashid

karim rashid DJ table

while i was in LA i saw a guy in a shirt that said GOT LAND? on the front and THANK AN INDIAN on the back. that, my friends, is what i want to wear to thanksgiving dinner. looking for one as we speak.
