hate to rain on your parade, unsprung your spring, harsh your mellow and all that, but there's some crazy sad stuff going on.
yesterday i got an email that read:
Dear Editor:
Following twenty years of business in Soho an era will end with the closing of Keith Haring's Pop Shop in downtown Manhattan in September 2005.
this is terrible, terrible news. i am a huge keith haring fan, i loved going to the store. i've bought postcards, t-shirts and sweatshirts for myself and as gifts through the years. i'll have to shop shop shop before september.
other new york city changes that are really really hurting me:
coney island will become some sort of mall or water park?
howard johnson's in times square is closing. i had many a drunken night at their 2 for 1 happy hour. cocktails were $5, which meant you could get a whiskey sour with a cherry for $2.50. amazing.
and just steps from hojo is the gaiety, which is also closing. sadness! i ogled many a hot gay (and gay for pay) stripper at the gaiety with my boozy posse. we even picked one up one summer night - jean luc from quebec. *sigh*
i'm not the only one reeling from these closings. check out what sfj says.

I still have the print Keith signed for me there in 1987 hanging in my living room. I will miss that place.
you're lucky!! when i was in junior high he had pieces on a construction site all along the FDR drive, and i always wanted to find a way to cross the highway, dismantle one panel and keep it... never figured out how. (maybe because i was 13 years old...)
