one thing leads to another.
so saturday i had to go to the post office - instead of going to the prince street location in soho, i decided to go to the east broadway office in chinatown. i stumbled on chinese new year celebrations. i followed some of the clubs - golden lion, praying mantis - as they made stops in the stores, drums, confetti, laughter.
since i was already heading downtown i decided to go to j&r to buy a new camera. then since i was already so far downtown, i went to see the ugo rondinone trees i'd gotten a postcard from creative time about.
then when you're that far downtown you might as well take a minute and look at the statue of liberty, right?
it looked closer to the naked eye.
yay new camera!
sunday we went to the armory art show and saw some art.
^ ^ ^ yeah damien hirst cigarettes... i liked the pills better...
^ ^ ^ i heart ryan mcguinness.
^^^ james hopkins - "decadence and demise" - skull bookcase, my fave.

the candyman can
christina aguilera - candyman
this is what a pop music video is supposed to look like. colorful, fun. i love the swing dancing, christina's wiggy hair colors and the hot eye candy soldiers.

spin vs. rolling stone: FOB edish
i'm a big fan of spin. they keep it real. they're focused. rolling stone has had jennifer aniston and ben affleck on the cover; spin is more likely to have the hives, the yeah yeah yeahs, morrissey. people who make music, hello.
but "rolling stone" is definitely a brand, legendary, iconic.
anywho. this week on newsstands: FALL OUT BOY.
(featuring girlhattan crush of the week, pete wentz.)
spin - black and white pictures of the guys in brooks brothers and dior homme suits
rolling stone - color photographs of the guys holding light sabers; pete is the only one without a shirt
spin - 3 pages of text, 3 pages of photos
rolling stone - 3 pages of text, 2 pages of photos (plus baby pix & good sidebar/chart)
spin - they're basically nerds
rolling stone - pete has a "sulky teenage muse"
spin - pete "embodies the life-in-the-open self-awareness of the livejournal generation"
rolling stone - "with his cushioned lips curling in anger over gleaming teeth, and his glossy black hair rising from his head in exclamation-point spikes, he looks like an animé version of elvis presley."
spin - a matter of fact, tell-it-like-it-is piece that flirts with condescension.
rolling stone - a lushly romantic, mythologized, psychoanalyzed, "what it's like to be in this band" profile.
winner: rolling stone, for better writing and photography.
hotel lovers rendez-vous
when you're from new york, and you go out a lot, and you've been going out a lot for a long time, it's not so much that you get jaded - but it gets harder to feel enthralled or surprised by parties.
this was not the case last night at the times square hotel QT, where i attended the projeckt nyc party, which had "human design, vortex healing, ayurveda, astrology, reflexology and musical improvisation." oh - and party guests swimming in the lobby pool. a pool party in february with tribal beats and new age healing definitely had me feeling like i was seeing something new. it was freaky, weird, titillating and bizarre. i'd go again. no camera but other people's flickr pix tagged 'hotel QT" can be found here. i ran into seva and also popped across the street to the night hotel, because mary j blige was bumping from speakers on the outside - it turned out to be exactly what the DJ was spinning in the lounge on the inside.
there are a million reasons to love this town, sometimes you just need one.

le futur, c'est maintenant
le futur, c'est maintenant!
thank zeus we're about to be done with retro.
carine roitfeld knows. balenciaga is doing it, my adidas are there. the march issue of bazaar has a metallic story shot by peter lindbergh that has *robots* in it. THE FUTURE IS NOW! get your techno fabrics ready and set your phasers to stun.
speaking of carine roitfeld, i saw this on f.a.d. - french vogue vs. american vogue. which one looks hip, fresh, fun, new, fashion-y to you?

i checked out of rehab and shaved my head.
so this weekend i checked out of rehab and shaved my head.
i mean, didn't we all?
but first....
friday i had a lovely dinner at chinatown brasserie...
the food - including dessert - was delicious. happy chinese new year!
stopped for a drink at milano's...
i always take my camera to the loo.
later we went to lit...
you can tell it's me hugging sb by the feather in my hair if you see the pictures over at dirtydown.
then km and i wandered the streets.
she hit the atm...
we went to esquina and then 151... lots of fun.
monday i went out to look for a new camera and accidentally bought new sneakers, whoops.
why yes, they do have a pedometer/stopwatch. thanks for noticing.
A.D.I.D.A.S. = All Day I Dream About Sneakers
god. they're so pretty.
song of the day - just for britney:
bald head - professor longhair
lookathere! she ain't got no hair!
