love will tear us apart. again.

what i want to get for myself for valentine's day

(or this, or this).

what not i will not get myself (or anyone else) for valentine's day:

i might just get tattooed.

i've been checking out needled and inked and so on, but i'm pretty sure i'm going to get text.

text can be so gorgeous. especially when the font and the words are just right.

but of course part of me just wants to get black ink, shapes that swirl, sort of tribal, or maori, like this or this or - hey, wait - i think i found a new boyfriend! . but i would rather get a south pacific tattoo in the south pacific.

and part of me just likes looking at tattoos. and pretty pictures of tattooed people. no pain or commitment involved.

update: for some reason i couldn't post the link in the comments, that's why i had to delete a bunch... but you can see stars if you want - i feel like it's one tattoo with three parts and that makes it OK to get two more for a total of three....

First let me say, I've had a tat for almost 9 years now, and while I don't regret it, I don't lovelove it the way I used to. Luckily, I put it in an out of the way place and the message was solid, so it will always be something I'll appreciate. Think about what you want long and hard before you decide.

Still, I want another, and I'm pretty clear on where I want it; I just have to wait until summer because this ain't exactly flip-flop season. The where really is as important as the what--and for the love of God don't get anything near your head. You're too classically pretty for weird shit around your face, man. Actually, I'd say don't get anything that can't be easily covered. It's shitty that something like a tat can completely define you in someone else's eyes, but it can.

Start small, too. There are too many cute hipster girls running around this city with really big ugly/gawdy tats on display, IMO. Then again, I'm more a fan of the tat as message to self than as conversation piece. Hell, go crazy. Or just date a rillyrilly cute punk bok with full sleeves and then put his hands where you'd like a tat to go. That's always a good look

i actually already have a tattoo (technically three) but i always planned on getting two more - i'm obsessed with the number 3 and i feel like i need 3, and then 3 will be enough.

as for tattooed boys, YES PLEASE! if you know any, send 'em my way. i dated a tattoo artist from philly - he did my stars - and he was *covered*, which i find very hot. for boys. i agree that there are some women with bad choices on view in this town... i promise not to be one of them!
